Gym Etiquette – If you’re new to working out, the gym can be a daunting place especially without knowing the general manners and rules that people tend to follow. The gym is a shared place, a place that values mutual respect and understanding, and therefore has some unspoken rules that people follow to be respectful of other gym goers.

Here are the top gym etiquette and red flags that people tend to follow and avoid!

3. Don’t hog free weights and machines → the equipment in the gym is for everyone to use, so be mindful of how long you spend on machines especially when the gym is busy, and so that everyone has the opportunity to use the equipment!

4. Don’t block someone’s view of the mirror → making sure you have the correct form is crucial in weight training, and also just generally to check yourself out in the mirror 😝, so make sure to not get in the way of someone while they’re working out. 

5. Be flexible about your workout routine if the gym is busy → We’ve all been to the gym past the 5 PM mark and know how busy and hectic it can get during peak hours.

  • Switch the order of your exercises around while you’re waiting for equipment to keep your heartrate up and try not to hover near a machine, rack, or bench until another person is done.
